Evaporative Air Cooler-How It Is Different From AC?

Winter winds are blowing and soon we will turn on our air cooler or ask for air conditioner maintenance. However, if you are considering getting a new cooler for your home or office fee next summer, we are making a quick comparison between evaporative air cooler and air conditioners for your consideration. The main difference between an air cooler and an air conditioner is that one uses water vapor as a coolant while the other absorbs heat in the passing air using a refrigerant.

How to get an evaporating air cooler from an air conditioner?

The outdoor air cooler is widely used in India. They are always referred to as swamp coolers, desert coolers or simply, coolers. Air coolers are cheaper to buy, operate and maintain. The air cooler has a simple design. At the bottom is a tank, with an exhaust fan on one side and three interchangeable media for water circulation. A pump is used to pass water through a cooling medium that acts as the three side walls of an evaporating air cooler. The fan is installed on the fourth side to draw hot air through the wet medium.

How does an evaporative air cooler work?

When hot air is drawn into the air cooler, it passes through the wet hive cooling medium. As it passes through the cooling medium of the hive, the water flowing over it absorbs the heat of the air, causing the water to evaporate. This leads to cold, moist air. A powerful fan circulates this cold air into the room (or outdoor area). The result is a constant flow of fresh, moist, cool air, while stale air circulates outside the room through an open window or door.

As the hot air passes through the wet medium, the water absorbs the heat and the fans release the cold air into the surrounding space. Honeywell has modern air cooler models such as ice trays, which make cooling more effective during the best months of summer.

An air conditioner uses a coolant or refrigerant stored to recycle air inside an ambient location. The coolant absorbs heat from the room air and pushes the cold air through the fan method.

Advantages of evaporative air cooler

The air cooler is environmentally friendly because it uses a natural process, i.e., evaporation of water to cool the air.

  • The air cooled by the air cooler is pleasant and provides the best relief from the summer heat by drying the dry air. On the other hand, chemical refrigerants used by air conditioners may have lower than normal temperatures, which is not good for health.
  • The Firewood also recycles indoor air through cross ventilation while air conditioners simply recycle ambient air which can increase the number of pollutants present in the indoor atmosphere.
  • The evaporative Air cooler is much more efficient than air conditioners, which makes them cheaper to operate than air conditioners.
  • Modern air coolers also come with dust filters to filter dust and debris from Instagram Air.
  • Port air coolers can be moved indoors for multipurpose use while wall and window air conditioners are fixed units.
  • Air coolers from brands like Honeywell also have a ‘connect and forget’ feature that allows you to set up an automatic water refill for the unit.

The air cooler uses a simple mechanism, so it is easy to maintain. Conversely, air conditioners require periodic service and coolant refills which can be cumbersome and expensive in the long run. Lastly, one of the major benefits of evaporative air cooler is that it offers reliable cooling performance and it well-designed when it comes to environment.
